Varsity Letter Criteria

Earning a Varsity Letter at Oakland Tech is a tradition of excellence that honors dedication, achievement, leadership, and Bulldog pride. A Varsity Letter is not just given—it is earned.


✅ 1. Participation & Performance

  • Active member of the Varsity roster.

  • Competes in at least 50% of varsity contests (exceptions for injury/coach’s discretion).

  • Makes consistent contributions in practices and games.

✅ 2. Attendance & Commitment

  • Attends practices, games, and team events.

  • Shows effort, teamwork, and reliability throughout the season.

✅ 3. Academic Standards

  • Maintains a 2.0 GPA or higher (per OUSD eligibility rules).

  • Stays in good standing in all classes.

✅ 4. Conduct & Sportsmanship

  • Represents Oakland Tech Bulldogs with pride, respect, and integrity.

  • Displays sportsmanship on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.

  • Follows all school, district, and team rules.

✅ 5. Coach & Athletic Director’s Discretion

Letters may also be awarded to athletes who:

  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership or commitment.

  • Overcome injury or challenges while still contributing.

  • Serve as a positive role model for teammates.


🏆 Note: Varsity Letters are awarded based on performance, character, and commitment. Final decisions are made by the Head Coach and Athletic Director.
