Varsity Letter Criteria

Earning a Varsity Letter at Oakland Tech is a tradition of excellence that honors dedication, achievement, leadership, and Bulldog pride. A Varsity Letter is not just given—it is earned.
1. Participation & Performance

Active member of the Varsity roster.

Competes in at least 50% of varsity contests (exceptions for injury/coach’s discretion).

Makes consistent contributions in practices and games.
2. Attendance & Commitment
-
Attends practices, games, and team events.

Shows effort, teamwork, and reliability throughout the season.
3. Academic Standards
-
Maintains a 2.0 GPA or higher (per OUSD eligibility rules).

Stays in good standing in all classes.
4. Conduct & Sportsmanship
-
Represents Oakland Tech Bulldogs with pride, respect, and integrity.

Displays sportsmanship on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.

Follows all school, district, and team rules.
5. Coach & Athletic Director’s Discretion
Letters may also be awarded to athletes who:

Demonstrate exceptional leadership or commitment.
-
Overcome injury or challenges while still contributing.
-
Serve as a positive role model for teammates.
Note: Varsity Letters are awarded based on performance, character, and commitment. Final decisions are made by the Head Coach and Athletic Director.
